Guest lecture with Phil Spencer

He spoke to the enthralled audience about his property career, how he started working on TV – a mere 20 years ago – and what it is like working with Kirstie Allsopp.Having trained as a surveyor, he spotted a gap in the housing market to act on behalf of the purchaser, rather than focussing on the seller as estate agents tend to do, creating a model that has been copied ever since.  Whilst at work, he received a call from a production company asking to consult on a new-to-TV genre – property buying. They later approached him as they were struggling to find a suitable presenter and the rest is history.

Phil gave a very personal talk, presented in a friendly and engaging way. As Phil put it himself, the Guest Lecture gave him the rare opportunity to say what he liked without program editors – or the lovely Kirstie – changing things! He had the audience roaring with laughter at his anecdotes about the Royal Marines and split trousers and talked about the current housing market and uncertainty within it.
