Chris Youngs retires as trustee

Chris Youngs was a trustee for Cardiac Rehab from 2008 until his retirement in Dec 2020.  Chris became chair of trustees in 2012 and guided the organisation through a period of many changes until 2018.

Chris came from a background of sport and leisure and was the Alton Sports centre manager at the time when Cardiac Rehab was based there.  Chris was promoted to Head of Leisure and Culture and then Head of Contracts at East Hants.  In this latter role it was Chris, on behalf of East Hants, who negotiated with Hugh Bethell the lease for the new purpose-built Cardiac Rehab Centre.

Chris went on to work in a number of other local government posts.  This gave him great understanding of how these organisations work and many helpful contacts by whom he was well liked and respected.  This was especially important to us during the protracted discussions regarding the building of the new Alton Sports Centre.

Under his guidance as chairman our organisation developed a much-improved system of governance and subcommittee work that has ensured the ongoing health of Cardiac Rehab in Alton.

Chris was a wise and calm leader throughout his time with CR and we are indebted to him for all his hard work over the years.  We all wish him and his family the best in his retirement.

Dr Mike Hayward, Chair of Trustees
