About High Blood Pressure

High blood pressure (aka hypertension) is bad for you: it can lead to an increased risk of heart disease, stroke, kidney failure and other diseases.  Around 50% of heart attacks and strokes are associated with high blood pressure.

In his latest series of blogs, Dr Hugh Bethell, founder of Cardiac Rehab, looks at the causes of hypertension and how simple life-style swaps, including building more exercise into your life, can help lower blood pressure.

Always seek the advice of your GP, but these four simple measures will help:

  • Lose weight
  • Reduce your salt intake – being especially mindful of hidden salts in pre-packed foods
  • Reduce alcohol consumption
