The Big Quiz

The Big Quiz

It was a full house of supporters for the Cardiac Rehab Big Quiz at Alton House Hotel on Thursday 22nd March. With 11 tables including two from our sponsors Sheen Stickland, the challenge was on for The Sheen Scribblers to retain their 2017 1st place trophy!

Our quiz master for the evening Mayor Dean Phillips kicked off the night with the first four rounds from Fictional places, Food and Drink to Geography and TV. By the half time supper break NFU's team NFU et al were inching ahead with a 3-point lead from the Sheen Scribblers who were one point ahead of the Stickland Scribes. The Wild Ones at this stage could well have been the wild card trailing in last place!
By the second part of the evening the competition was hotting up and some excellent history buffs for our WW1 round with the Wild Ones, Pieces of Eight, Dirty Dozen and The Socialites all scoring a full house for this round!
The logos round showed the magical effects of marketing with the Sheen Scribblers taking this round and Hugh's hopeful's seemingly retired from it!
The famous places round was a high scoring round for most teams although Soldridge Analytical were clearly too busy on facebook to make the effort!
The True/False round weeded out the medical professionals from the not so with some confusion in regard to the number of bones in the feet, however they seemed to redeem themselves remembering the human lungs have a surface area of approx. 70 square metres, phew!

The winners (and the losers!!) of the evening go to;
1st place – NFU's et al
2nd place Sheen Scribblers
3rd place Pieces of Eight!

The Cardiac Rehab staff team The Tickers played an honourable role – enabling none of the guests to take the 'wooden spoon' slot...now that's sportsmanship!

Congratulations NFU et al! You have been crowned the new Brainiac's of Alton!

Thank you to

Sheen Stickland our sponsors for the evening, Robert Simmons Solicitors, NFU Mutual and Alton House Hotel and those that came to support on the night, we raised just over £1,000 for the charity.

"We believe as a local business it is important to support community initiatives and local worthy causes such as this one. It was fantastic to see so many other local businesses and fellow quiz fans following suit by entering teams and ensuring the event's success. It was a great event, and both an honour and a pleasure for Sheen Stickland to have taken part and given our support."

Heart Ball 2018

Heart Ball 2018

Community members, supporters, and local businesses came together on Saturday 24th February to celebrate the work of our charity.  The Cardiac Rehab Heart Ball fundraiser held at the Alton House Hotel raised in excess in of £4,000 for the charity. This years event saw guests greeted with a glass of bubbly and a string quartet of local orchestra musicians. There was entertainment aplenty with casino style tables for those interested in a flutter,  a table magician keeping everyone guessing and a fantastic caricaturist offering portraits for those wanting to see themselves in another light! The raffle was overflowing with goodies, the three course meal served by Alton House Hotel was exceptional and the silent and live auctions bought out everyone's competitive spirit!
Kings Pond Shanty Men performed a melodic set of tunes free of charge for the charity to lead harmoniously into the disco dancing stage, hosted by the lovey Claire and Tony of AAC Disco, who also gave their services to the event free of charge.
Fundraising Officer Amanda Denton said feedback from the event was exceptional with everyone enjoying the food and entertainment.  It was a lively evening and a great opportunity to raise awareness of the charity and the important work it does in the community.
We would also like to thank all the local businesses that helped make the raffle/auction on the evening such a success, over half of our guests went home with raffle/auction prizes that had kindly been donated by a number of local businesses who gave generously to help raise funds to reduce the impact of Cardiovascular Disease.
